In a busy weekend at the club, Martin Foley was the winner of the Stableford competition on Saturday with a score of 44pts, he finished four points ahead of Stephen Doherty. In Sunday’s competition sponsored by Coleman Electrics, Michael Tighe won out with a score of 42pts, Kenneth Sheridan came second thanks to a strong back nine finishing up with a score of 39 pts, with Robert Devrin taking third place and John Muldoon fourth.

Early on Friday August 18 1882, John Collins, a tenant farmer, having heard disturbances during the night coming from his neighbours’ house, the Joyces, went to check if all was well. He must have feared the worst because he brought with him two neighbours, Mary and Margaret O’Brien. They discovered an appalling sight. Even today, when our senses have been hardened by so many atrocities, it was a scene of savage murder that cried to heaven. No mercy was shown to this unfortunate family.

Two family members arrested on Friday afternoon (June 5) for their part in a feud-related sword and slash-hook attack on a neighbour's house in Willow Park during which a woman broke her arm, were remanded in custody until June 24 at the District Court this week (June 10).
